Conditions Treated

The eye care team at Primary Eyecare and Optical of Meridian is committed to helping all their patients lead better lives by maximizing their ability to participate and function in every day activities. And while each individual patient has some unique factors contributing to his or her eye health, our eye doctors have extensive clinical experience working with many of the most common eye diseases and eye conditions.

Common Eye Conditions and Eye Diseases

In addition to convergence or binocular vision problems (such as myopia or "nearsightedness", and amblyopia or "lazy eye"), your optometrists in Meridian treat a variety of conditions that affect the eyes. These include:

Glaucoma: a nuanced group of diseases causing progressive vision loss due to damage to the optic nerve, usually caused by increased pressure inside the eyes. Possible treatment include eye drops, medication, and in some cases surgery.

Diabetic Retinopathy: the most common cause of vision loss for people with diabetes, this condition impairs blood vessels in the retina and is caused by chronically high levels of sugar in the blood. Like glaucoma, vision loss from diabetic retinopathy is irreversible, but treatment can include tools, tips, and strategies to deal with low vision.

Seasonal Allergies: That itchy, teary, and often red appearance of the eyes during the spring, summer, and/or fall are classic symptoms of a seasonal allergy. Environmental allergens can stimulate a heightened histamine response in sensitive individuals, leading to uncomfortable eye symptoms. Your eye doctors can provide relief by prescribing eye drops, and may recommend that you wear eye glasses instead of contacts during your most sensitive times of year.

Dry Eyes: a lack of tears, which normally lubricate your eyes, can be caused by allergies, advancing age, medications, certain medical conditions, or even long-term use of contacts may lead to dry eyes. Proper eye care for dry eyes includes eye drops that can increase or retain tears, or "add" artificial tears via specialized solutions.

Eye Infections/Foreign Object Removal: accidents happen. If you or a loved one sustains an injury to an eye, your optometrists can skillfully and carefully treat the acute condition, whether by removing a lodged foreign object, prescribing medication, or providing eye drops. An eye doctor can also educate you on ways to prevent eye damage in your day to day life.

Regularly seeing your eye doctor is one of the best ways to either prevent a eye problem from occurring or to establish early treatment of a condition, which can drastically improve patient outcomes.

Is it time for you to see your eye doctor?
